We are working to shift the understanding of palliative care, from something only offered at the end of life to a supportive approach that begins much earlier in a patient’s health journey. Rooted in primary care, this model helps ensure individuals and families receive the right support at the right time.

We are collaborating closely with local palliative care committees in Dryden and Red Lake to build capacity, strengthen networks, and enhance the delivery of care. Together, we are supporting education and workshops for healthcare providers and caregivers, improving comfort and confidence in delivering palliative care across settings.

Our efforts also include embedding palliative care practices into routine care planning, advancing team-based approaches, and aligning with regional and provincial strategies to ensure equitable access for all communities. By normalizing palliative care as part of holistic, person-centred care, we are helping providers and families feel supported throughout every stage of illness, not just at the end.
