PROJECT: 2022 Diversion Channel Sediment Removal and Regrading

Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) is undertaking sediment removal from the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway Diversion Channel, that is situated east of Ford Street North, from the bank of the Neebing River extending northward to Churchill Drive East.

The LRCA owns and maintains the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway. Sediment removal in the Floodway Diversion Channel is required to ensure that the Floodway continues to provide flood protection to the lower Neebing River and Intercity Area up to the Regional Storm, which is a rainfall event in which 193 millimetres of rain falls in 12-hours.

The accumulation of sediment in the Diversion Channel is due to the flow diversion that occurred for 16 consecutive days during the spring of 2022. The work is scheduled to commence November 7, 2022 and will be completed prior to December 31, 2022.

To ensure public safety, the work area will be isolated for the duration of the operation. For your safety, the public is advised to please respect all posted construction signs and stay clear of the work areas and equipment. Your cooperation and patience with this undertaking is appreciated.
