Yes, both Housekeeping and American Plan units and Cabins are pet friendly

What is your policy on cannabis?

Although, the purchase and consumption of recreational marijuana is legal in Ontario, Canada. Mahkwa Lodge has the following strict policies:

• Cannabis consumption is not permitted in public areas.
• Guests who choose to smoke cannabis must do so discreetly.
• Staff and management will not supply or purchase cannabis products for guests, please do not make such requests.
• Boat and motor rentals will not be permitted for guests who appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Do you have a bar on-site?

No, we do not have a license to sell alcohol. So please bring your own alcohol.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We do not accept credit cards, Checks and cash only in US funds only.

How much is a deposit if I book?

Depending on the size of Cabin and length of stay, the requested deposit is rounded off to approx. 15%

Are deposits non-refundable?

100% refundable until January 6th of each year.

Can we get a discount if we have fewer people than the cabin size (eg. 7 ppl in an 8-person Cabin)?

The established rates are per Cabin size, therefore if 7 ppl are in an 8 person Cabin the 8 person rate will still apply.

Will my cell phone work for phone calls?

It depends who your service provider is, in the event the you cannot make calls via your cell phone there are landlines in the Service Centre that are available at no-cost.

Does the lodge have Wi-Fi access?

Yes, there are wireless routers throughout the camp, if we experience technical difficulties, you can always access the internet from the Service Centre.

Can you reserve specific docking space?

There is ample space to dock your Boat when staying at the Lodge, but we do have an open docking system in place, therefore, we do not reserve specific docks for certain cabins.

What’s the best time of year to fish?

Fishing is amazing throughout the season, but the location of species changes depending on the time of year you plan on arriving.

How far from the lodge do you have to go to catch fish?

Mahkwa is located within a 10 to 15 minute boat ride of great hot spots including Vaughn Lake.

Are there boat launch or other hidden fees not included in your pricing?

No, parking, docking and boat launch fees are at to cost. Applicable taxes are 13% extra.

Does the Service Centre sell premium gas?

Yes

What lures, tackle and bait should I bring?

The Service Centre has minnows for sale, some guests purchase nightcrawlers and leeches prior to arriving at Mahkwa. For Walleye, jigs tipped with a minnow work well, other lures that are popular include: Cordell Wally Diver, Strike King Redeye Shad, Rapala Shad Rap (No. 7 & No. 5)

For Northern, ¾ oz jigs tipped with a minnow or 5 of diamonds lure do the trick.

Can I buy my fishing license at the lodge?

Yes, the staff can assist you in purchasing your license on-line, at the Service Centre.

Where is the nearest medical facility?

A medical clinic is located just 10 minutes from the lodge during business hours, or Meno Ya Win Hospital is only a 50-minute drive from the Lodge.

How are the roads?

Roads are paved all the way to Mahkwa Lodge with the exception of the last mile which is gravel.

Can I have a shore lunch if there’s a fire ban?

Yes, but only with a propane heater.

Do the docks have hydro?

Yes, please bring your own extension cords.

If I’m staying at Housekeeping, can I purchase meals from the American Plan restaurant?

Yes, but you must pre-purchase based on available seating
