  • Assistance for those who wish to disclose historical harm

  • Community and outside resources with a focus on indigenous supports
  • Victim Impact Statements (VIS) and Community Impact Statements

  • Police file information for victims
  • Court appearance dates
  • The Victim Quick Response Program

RFERRALS can come from a number of sources including:

  • Shelters

  • Police Investigator or Detective
  • Restorative Justice Program
  • Talking Together Program

The VWLP provides LIAISON SERVICES between victims and witnesses and other parties including:

  • Crown Attorney’s Office
  • Police / Justice Personnel
  • Service Providers
  • Community Resources
  • Families
  • Chief & Council
  • Other victim service agencies

Goals & Objectives

The goals & objectives of the VWLP regarding victims and witnesses of crime are to:

  • Ensure immediate needs are met following an incident where harm is done
  • Assist with safety planning
  • Educate on court procedures and what to expect as matters proceed
  • Provide accompaniment and support during court preparations and proceedings
  • Coordinate meetings with the Crown Attorney
  • Provide updates on court dates, dispositions, and case status
  • Assist in preparing a Victim Impact Statement (VIS)
  • Provide information on community resources such as counselling agencies or shelters that could provide additional support
  • Act as a liaison between the victims and witnesses and other parties such as community members, service providers, schools, police, justice personnel, and Chief & Council
  • Inform victims about their rights and obligations
  • Work collaboratively with other service providers to enhance the provision of services to victims and witnesses from NAN
  • Build bridges with justice and police partners.
