Health Benefits and Other Coverage

Below is a list of the most common funding sources for psychological services (i.e., assessment, psychotherapy/counselling). If you have any questions regarding coverage, our Client Care Specialists can be reached at (807)768-0660.

Extended Health Care Insurance Benefits

Many individuals have access to psychological services through their extended health care benefits. As plans are variable, we recommend checking with your insurance provider regarding your coverage.

Health Canada First Nation Inuit Health Branch

Coverage is available for psychotherapy/counselling for all First Nations individuals with a status card through Health Canada FNIHB.

Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB)

Funding is available for psychological services for individuals who have suffered a psychological injury in the workplace. Family members are also available for coverage under certain circumstances.

WSIB - Community/Mental Health Program

This is a new program from WSIB that provides funding for psychological services for issues such as traumatic stress, workplace harassment/bullying, and mental health challenges related to a physical injury sustained at work. Individuals are also able to open their own claim. Please contact one of our client care specialists to learn more about this program.

Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance

Coverage for psychological service is available for individuals experiencing psychological difficulty resulting from a motor vehicle accident. This coverage extends to family members who have been negatively impacted by the client's motor vehicle accident.

Criminal Injuries Compensation Board

Funding for psychotherapy/counselling is available for victims of a violent crime (e.g., domestic violence, sexual abuse, etc.). Eligible clients may also include an immediate family member or custodial guardian of a victim who is a minor.

Victim Quick Response Program

Immediate funding for psychotherapy/counselling is available for individuals who have been a victim of a violent crime (e.g., domestic violence, sexual abuse, etc.). Eligible clients may also include an immediate family member or custodial guardian of a victim who is a minor. Please note that an application for counselling benefits must be made within 14 days of a police report being filed to qualify for this coverage.

Long-Term Disability Insurance Benefits

For people receiving Long Term Disability benefits, coverage for psychological services may be available through their insurance company.

Veteran Affairs

Funding for psychological services is available for members of the RCMP, Canadian Forces, Veterans, and their family members.

Internet Child Exploitation (ICE)

Funding for psychotherapy/counselling is available for children and youth victims of internet exploitation, as well as any family members who were impacted. Please contact one of our Client Care Specialists to learn more about this program.

Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP)

This program provides funding for psychotherapy/counselling for refugees coming to Canada for resettlement and do not currently have access to provincial health care benefits.
