This is Daily Foot Health

Overview

The daily foot health program includes two parts. The theory has lessons that lead up to the hands-on workshop where you gain exposure to the daily foot health practices, and highlights the essential role of support personnel as part of an interdisciplinary team, promoting prevention of infection, complication reduction, and improved overall health.

Foot Care Nurse Clinical

Professional Development for RN, RPM, LPN, and NP

This course uses the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses’ National Competencies for Advanced Nursing Foot Care in Canada as Clinical Performance Standards and is led by a Foot Care Nurse Educator.

  • Theory course provides a theoretical foundation for nurses preparing for a career in nursing foot care.
  • Clinical course provides in-class and hands-on practical experience working with people from the community providing footcare under the guidance of the Educator.

Woodworking - CA115

This is an at-your-own-pace workshop in a fully-equipped woodworking shop with a patient, fun, knowledgeable woodworking instructor to answer your questions. Safety and project review will be discussed at first class. You are required to bring your own project idea and materials to class. Some woodworking knowledge would be an asset.

Learn how to set up your own shop with portable power tools. Classes will include design, joinery and power techniques. You get to design, plan, and construct your own project from start to finish.

Carpenter's Choice - ZC159

Have you always wanted to try your hand at woodworking and can’t commit to a lengthy course? Do you have an idea for a small project that you need help with? We will supply the expert, shop, tools and the plans (upon approval and consultation with the instructor), you supply the materials to create your own project. Safety, project review and materials list will be discussed at first class. Come out and learn a new skill in a safe and encouraging environment while creating a one-of-a-kind piece. Some woodworking knowledge would be an asset.

Welding

Pressure Pipe - WZ300

This 56 – hour introductory course is designed to introduce students to pressure pipe welding with the SMAW process. Students will learn how to prepare and weld coupons with E6010 and E7108 electrodes to industry standards. Previous welding experience is required along with All Personal Protective Equipment, welding gear and a 5-inch grinder.

Ozone Depletion Prevention - IB802

Canada’s Ozone Layer Protection Awareness Training Program is based on Environment Canada’s “Code of Practice for Elimination of Fluorocarbon Emissions in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems”. This course will deal with environmentally correct equipment design, proper handling of refrigerants, and will prepare participants for complying with provincial regulations covering refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Each attendee will receive the Participant Manual to refer to in class and take home. Participants who achieve a mark of 75% or better on the exam will receive an Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) card. This card must be renewed every five years for those who purchase or handle refrigerants across Canada. Note: this course is strictly theory and does not incorporate hands-on training. Anyone in residential, commercial, industrial, domestic, automotive and mobile cooling applications would benefit from taking this course. This course is offered via distance education where the students and instructor in Thunder Bay are joined by students through Blackboard. Students attend class at home/office through Blackboard.

Volunteer Management

Volunteers represent an important resource for many companies and organizations. This certificate focuses on the specialized skills set of managing volunteers as opposed to employees. It offers a resume-enhancing advantage to those on a management career path in organizations with volunteer involvement, providing the latest in volunteer management and administration practices. The certificate was developed based on the standards and practices set out by the Human Resources Council of Canada and the Canadian Association of Volunteer Resources Managers (CAVR). Each course references the National Occupational Standards for Managers of Volunteer Resources.

This certificate focuses on the specific management, research and planning tools to develop and engage a spectrum of volunteer types, including those in specific roles, age groups and levels of responsibility or commitment. You will be coached to proactively manage each cycle of the volunteer engagement, from the recruitment process to the training, development and engagement cycles to the disengagement process. Delivered online, this certificate will allow you to interact with participants from other organizations as you hone your skills as an effective manager of volunteers.

Learn to build an organizational culture where the staff-volunteer team will ultimately work together to accomplish the mission/goals of the organization. This course applies the new National Occupational Standards for Managers of Volunteer Resources developed by the Human Resources Council of Canada in partnership with the Canadian Association of Volunteer Resource Managers.

Discover the impact of your reputation on recruitment, and explore strategies for every facet of the volunteer cycle including pre-recruitment planning, supervision, performance evaluations, recognition, and risk management.

Volunteer Management: Administration – OL089

This course focuses on the administrative tasks and processes involved in volunteer management. This course will help you understand the support system behind volunteer engagement, whether it be the use and application of software programs; the development of policies and procedures; creating a budget; resolving conflict or creating your own filing system/templates of forms. We will explore these, along with the role that associations (local, provincial and national) play in supporting your continued path of professional development.

Volunteer Management: Applied Project – OL136

In this capstone course, you will put the theory of previous courses into practice by completing a project focused on volunteer engagement. For current Managers of Volunteers the project will focus on a direct application to their current work. Non-Managers can chose a project or research topic that benefits another organization which engages volunteers.
