2023-2024 Winter
Student Safety: Schools & Winter Weather
The potential for weather related winter school closures and cancellations is a reality here in Northwestern Ontario.
In preparation for winter, all Parents/Guardians need to be aware of Transportation Emergency Weather Procedures followed by all Lakehead Public Schools.
Every effort will be made to ensure that all families can access timely information on school closures and cancellations.

Kindergarten
Information regarding Kindergarten Registration Week and our open house event will be communicated to the public soon! We look forward to meeting new students and families, and showing your little one what Kindergarten is all about!
Children who will be 4 on or before December 31st are invited to attend Junior Kindergarten (Kindergarten Year One) in September.
Children arrive at school with different backgrounds, experiences, and are at different stages of development. Educator teams (teachers and early childhood educators) in partnership with parents/guardians work to provide learning experiences that will build each student’s confidence.
The Kindergarten Program is a two-year program. First year students (who are mostly four year olds) are considered Year One students and second year students (who are mostly Five years old) are considered Year Two students. This program provides a foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour, health, and well-being. Partnerships with families and communities are essential. This program guides children to respect diversity, equity, and inclusion. It is an intentional, planned program that supports learning through explicit teaching, play and inquiry that capitalizes on children’s natural curiosity.
Parents of Year Two students can choose either an English or French Immersion program.
If you require more information about school zones or transportation options, please visit www.ststb.ca or call Student Transportation Services Thunder Bay at (807) 625-1660.
We invite you to watch our Kindergarten Videos on YouTube with your family.

Students interested in Advanced Placement will begin taking Pre-AP courses in Grade 9. These courses, in addition to covering The Ontario Curriculum, will be enriched academic courses with the goal of exposing students to the vocabulary and style of AP examinations. It should be noted that students will be evaluated in exactly the same way as students in the regular academic stream; the expectations are not greater. The difference is that students will encounter more sophisticated content. These courses will naturally lead to Grade 12 AP courses, at the end of which the students will have the option of writing the AP Examinations, which occur in May each year. For more information about Advanced Placement, please contact Student Services at your high school.
